Privacy Policy
Effective October 8, 2026
AskFelix (“Felix”, “we”) helps people fix things around the house and connects them with local pros. This policy explains what information we collect, what we do with it, and who we share it with. If anything here is unclear, email hello@askfelix.diy.
Using Felix
What you give Felix
When you ask Felix for help, the photos, descriptions, answers and chat messages you give it are sent to Google's Gemini AI service to identify the problem and build your plan. We don't save your photos on our servers when you use Felix this way. The one exception is described under Sending a project to a pro.
What we log
We keep a log of how Felix is used, so we can see what works and fix what doesn't. It includes things like what Felix identified, its safety assessment, how far you got through a plan, which buttons you used, and a random ID for your visit. It can include short pieces of text, such as a note you typed when reporting a problem with a plan, or a zip code you searched when looking for a pro. It doesn't include your photos, your name or your contact details.
Each project also gets a random ID on our server. If you arrived from a pro's Felix card, we record which pro it came from.
Feedback you send
After a project, Felix may ask how it went, and you can send feedback anytime from the menu. It's always optional. If you do, we keep your answers (including whether the repair worked), anything you type, and a screenshot if you attach one, linked to your project's random ID. Screenshots are stored privately and are only seen by us. We use feedback to improve Felix.
What stays on your device
Your saved projects, their photos, your DIY level, and your settings are stored in your browser on your device, not on our servers. If you send a project to a pro, the name and contact details you entered are also saved on your device so you don't have to retype them. You can clear your projects from Your projects in the menu, or clear your browser's data for askfelix.diy to remove everything.
Repair videos and shopping links
To suggest a repair video, we search YouTube using the name of the thing you're fixing. Videos play through YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode, but when you play one, YouTube (Google) handles that under its own privacy policy. Shopping links take you to Amazon. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases, and Amazon handles your visit under its own policy.
Sending a project to a pro
If you came to Felix through a pro's card, you can choose to send your project to that pro. Nothing is sent unless you fill in your details and tap Send. When you do, we store and share with that pro only:
- your name, phone number and/or email, and how you'd like to be contacted
- a summary of your project: what you described, what Felix found, the steps you completed, and any parts or costs Felix mentioned
- up to four photos you shared with Felix during the project
We also record when you agreed and the exact wording you agreed to. The pro sees your request in an email from us, on a private page, and in their Felix Pro dashboard. Pros agree to use your details only to respond to you about your project. We don't share your request with any other pro or company.
If you're a Felix Pro
Your card is public
Your Felix card is a public web page. Anything you put on it can be seen by anyone with the link, saved to their contacts, and found through Felix's Find a pro search. That includes your name, business name, phone number, the email address you signed up with, trade, service area, tagline, bio, photos, website, hours, years in the trade, license number and whether you say you're insured. The zip codes you serve are used to match you in search but aren't shown on your card.
Other information about you
- If we invited you, the details we used to reach you: your name, email, business name, trade, how we came across your business, and how the invitation went (for example, when it was sent and whether you accepted). If you unsubscribe, we keep only your email address, on a list so we never email you again.
- Your application, including the details you applied with, before you're approved.
- Sign-in. When you sign in, we set a cookie that keeps you signed in for 30 days. We store only a scrambled (hashed) version of your sign-in links and sessions.
- Requests. The project requests customers send you, and the status you give each one.
- Activity, such as when you signed in or edited your card, in the same usage log described above.
Services we use
We rely on a few companies to run Felix. They process information on our behalf to provide their service:
- Google (Gemini API) analyzes the photos and text you give Felix. We currently use a version of this service under which Google may use the content we send to improve its products. Please don't include anything in a photo or description you wouldn't want processed this way.
- Google (YouTube) finds and plays repair videos.
- Google Fonts serves the typefaces on some pages, which means Google receives your IP address when those pages load.
- Resend sends our emails: invites, sign-in links and request notifications.
- Our web host runs our servers and stores our data. Like most hosts, it keeps standard server logs that include IP addresses.
- Namecheap manages our domain and forwards email sent to hello@askfelix.diy.
Who we share with
We don't sell your personal information, and we don't use it for advertising. We don't use third-party analytics or ad trackers. Beyond the services listed above, we share information only:
- with a pro, when you choose to send them your project
- publicly, for the details a pro puts on their own card
- if the law requires it, or to protect the safety of people using Felix
- with a company that takes over AskFelix, which would have to keep following this policy
How long we keep it
Felix is new, and we keep the information described here for as long as we need it to run and improve Felix. A pro's card stays up until they ask us to remove it, or we remove it. You can ask us to delete your information at any time; see below. Our host keeps daily backups for recovery, so deleted information may remain in those backups for up to 30 days before it's permanently removed.
Your choices
- Don't share what you don't want to. Felix works with just a description; a photo is optional. Sending a project to a pro is always your choice.
- Clear your device. Remove your saved projects from Your projects, or clear your browser data.
- Pros: sign in at askfelix.diy/pro/login to change anything on your card.
- Ask us. Email hello@askfelix.diy to see, correct or delete information we hold about you, including a request you sent a pro, or to have your Felix card removed. We'll reply within 30 days. Once a pro has received your request, they have their own copy; ask them directly to delete it.
Everything else
Security
Felix runs over encrypted connections (HTTPS). Project requests are only reachable through private links and a pro's signed-in dashboard, and those links stop working after 30 days. No system is perfectly secure, though, and we can't guarantee that information will never be accessed without permission.
Children
Felix is meant for adults. We don't knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you think a child has given us information, email us and we'll delete it.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. If a change significantly affects how we use information you've already given us, we'll tell pros by email and show a notice in Felix.
